In 2011, Benjeroop and Murrabit West had their share of flood water. The then Ted Baillieu Liberal-National Coalition Government initiated a land buyback scheme making way for a floodwater path. Over 20 farming families took advantage of the buybacks. The land titles were combined, converted to large dryland farms, and stripped of irrigation infrastructure, however, residents past Dawe Road were ineligible for the scheme.
