Fishing Report -January 20, 2025

G’day everyone, the fishing is starting to improve around the local area with some reports of nice Cod being accounted for around Barham and Murrabit. Most of these fish have been caught on bait, with a few willing to take a trolled lure. The water is still a bit murky at times, so I would suggest some brighter coloured lures. See Bree at Trend in Barham for all your fishing requirements. Trend is one of the few stores with a good selection of Oargee lures on the shelf at the moment, with most of the bigger stores sold out. The Cod aren’t fussy about bait. Reports of chicken, cheese and even dim sims have been taken. The Kerang Lakes are still hit and miss. Charm has produced the odd yella, and a few small redfin. If you’re there on the right day, Lake Boga seems to be the pick at the moment, a few yella’s and good numbers of redfin up to 40cm on bait and lures. The Murrumbidgee is still firing with good numbers of Cod taking lures and bait. Maude seems to be popular at the moment, with good boat ramps and free camping available. It’s that time of the year again with the local fishing comp being held this weekend. So, if you are planning a day on the water, be aware that boat activity will be high. Well, kiddies it’s time to dust off the old camera and get clicking because it’s comp time again! If you have a picture of a nice native fish send it to me with name and size of your catch if possible, and go into the running for a Trend voucher or some quality lures. Thank you to Bree at Trend for sponsoring the competition. Send your pics to 0488544689. Good luck! Congratulations to the best angler in town Trev Trewin for smashing his PB a couple of weeks ago with a 117 cm Murray Cod. What a horse of a fish. Cheers Bazz
