Hi all, welcome to the first report of the Cod season. It was a bit slow for me on opening day over at Mathoura, but I was told of a metre-plus fish caught near Picnic Point and some smaller ones on bait. High flows and dirty water made things fairly tough. Locally, I’ve had reports of Cod up to 70cm and quite a few in the 50 to 60 cm range, all on bait. There have been some really good reports of big numbers of Cod caught in the Edward River between Moulamein and Deniliquin, with some camps boating over 50 fish on the opening weekend. This is a great sign for the Edwards and tributaries. I fished Lake Meran over the weekend and rounded up 20 or so Redfin, all on the small side and a good Yella. They have started to school, so with a bit of luck the bigger ones will fire up shortly. I haven’t heard any reports from Lake Charm. Lake Boga is starting to show signs of becoming a really good fishery, with reports of good Reddies and a few Yella’s caught there in the last few months. Kyalite is still fishing well with some big Yella’s and nice Cod being caught in that area. So good luck all, and watch this space kiddies for a competition coming just after Christmas. Remember to save those fish pics! On a sad note, the Sea Eagles nest that has overlooked Lake Meran for as long as I remember, has succumbed to a wind storm a few weeks ago and now lays on the ground. A mate and I had a look at it and were amazed by the amount of material that made it up and estimated it would have weighed close to a tonne. Cheers Ba
