The Bridge
Spectacular Centenary
1 min read

Centenary (plus one) celebrations continued for the Cohuna Fire Brigade at the weekend with an open day at the station and a torchlight procession through the town.

The open day on Saturday afternoon delighted adults and children alike with a variety of activities to showcase the brigade’s history, technology advances and other emergency services. There were hose squirting competitions, a dunking machine and Koondrook Fire Brigade’s miniature fire engine, as well as virtual fire situations to explore.

The Cohuna Fire Brigade, which is now a Road Rescue principal provider, demonstrated its skill and ability to rescue a person (a dummy) trapped in a vehicle.

Saturday evening from 8.30pm, Cohuna Fire Brigade members led other brigades in a torchlight procession from the Cohuna Recreation Reserve, along King George Street and to the fire station in Sampson Street.

The fire fighters and officials in uniform and workwear paraded to marching music, holding kerosene lit lanterns and creating a spectacular display of orange torches amidst the red and blue lights of the fire trucks interspersed between the visiting brigades.

Participating brigades included Cohuna, Leitchville, Kerang, Swan Hill, Pyramid Hill, Kyneton, Kyabram, Echuca and St Arnaud.
