Things aren’t always as they seem. Note the Tawny Frogmouth (see photo) pretending to be the end of a broken branch on a tree beside the Loddon River. The Tawny Frogmouth is a master of camouflage. This bird maybe sitting in a tree a few metres away from you, but you don’t even see it! How can this be? The bird’s strategy is to sit there motionless, its cryptic plumage and unbirdlike silhouette, including eyes that close to just a slit, bear a remarkable resemblance to a broken tree branch stump.
