Shields awarded life membership

The Kerang Turf Club held its AutoPro Summer Races on the last Saturday of 2024. The eight-race card attracted trainers from across the state. However, the day's highlight was not the races but the awarding of a Kerang Turf Club Life Membership to Alan Shields. Alan has volunteered at the club for 20 years (2002-2024). He served as Vice President for three years and then became the club President for four years before resigning from the committee in 2018 to travel and see more of Australia. Even after stepping down, Alan never genuinely retired from the club; he can often be seen maintaining the grounds—mowing the lawn, whipper-snipping the surrounds, planting trees, and even cleaning the free RV toilet block. Alan is a profoundly community-minded person who has always advocated for the Gannawarra Shire community.
