There was a great vibe at the Koondrook Swimming Pool this week when families flowed into the 20/21 Bar-rook Swimming Club season. Over 60 swimmers have already signed up for the free ‘Come and Try’ sessions. The 20/21 swimming season marks a new beginning for the Club, where non-swimmers can join for the first time. Changing the Bar-rook membership conditions to: ‘Must be confident in the water’ opened the flood gates for swimmers to join the Club earlier. It will be great for our youngest members to feel at home at the Koondrook Pool and for their families to develop a sense of belonging within the Bar-rook Swimming Club Community.
In the past, swimmers needed to be able to swim 33 meters without touching the side or bottom of the pool, the Club could accept swimmers from 4 years old. So, the Bar-rook Swimming Club could always accept young swimmers but they needed to be an exceptional 4-year-old and not just a child who wanted to learn-to-swim and have some fun.
The Learn-to-Swim Sessions started last Wednesday at 4:15pm in the medium pool. Young swimmers were eager to have fun and to make new friends. The structured lessons look like the children are just playing in the water but they are actually learning to move about in the aquatic environment safely, while they develop water confidence. Although the lessons are capped there are still places available on Tuesday afternoon and one place is available on Wednesday.
Bar-rook swim coaches offered seven different ability classes between 5-6 pm and the majority of swimmers booked in for Tuesday sessions. There are places available on Wednesday evenings for Beginner and Advanced Beginner sessions from 5-6pm and a few places at 5:30 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Beginner sessions are delivered in the big pool, swimmers develop their buoyancy skills, learn to move through water with the least resistance and start their stroke development. Advanced Beginner sessions focus on; increasing the swimmer’s ability to move through the water effectively in a streamline way and to develop swimming techniques. Swimmers in the 4:15pm and the 5-6pm sessions are able to participate in the sessions on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Three separate ability groups are offered from 6-7pm and these skilled swimmers are able to attend training on both nights. The number of swimmers per qualified swimming teacher increases as swimmers become proficient in their strokes and swimmers are able to enjoy longer sessions. Places are still available in the Intermediate, Advanced and Advanced Plus swimming sessions from 6-7pm.
It’s a great idea to pre-book swimmers into sessions to avoid disappointment. The Swim Club tries to fit all swimmers into a session but it is a shuffle. Please direct enquiries to Sharon: 0438531366
