Player Profile - Gary Farrant

Gary Farrant played in North Melbourne’s first VFL premiership in 1975. At North, he played with Bertie Johnson and Cliff Dwyer (in Reserves), and Peter Steward from Kerang. His brother, Doug, also played for North.

 

How did you get discovered?

These were the days when people came to watch you play, or someone would have rung up and said come and have a look at this young bloke. Our league played an interleague game at Swan Hill, and the North Melbourne people were up there watching a bloke from Swan Hill. They saw both Doug and I play in that game and invited us down there. There was no pathway to football, you went down, you had a run and they said we don’t want you – go home, or you stay, it’s as simple as that. It was that bad.
