Murray Connect Trivia Night Raises $1800 for LHMT
1 min read

Last Thursday, more than 90 community members came together to support Murray Connect’s first fundraiser trivia night “Gettin’ Trivvy With It” to raise funds for the Barham Local Health Medical Trust. The night was made possible by funding from Murray Irrigation’s 2020/2021 Sponsorship Program that supports healthy, viable and vibrant communities. “Getting Trivvy with it” aimed to shine a spotlight on community wellbeing and bring together community after what was a turbulent 2020 for many.

Teams battled it out over six rounds including sport, medicine, pop culture, music, geography, and general knowledge, with a bonus local knowledge question in each round. There was plenty of debate, especially around the number of pubs in the old Wakool Shire. The “guess the next line of the song” questions in the musical round proved tough, but got people singing along and dancing in their seats. The “Kelly Gang” from Kerang ultimately took out the winning spot, with three teams all tied for second place. The winners received a local produce hamper filled with eggs, chutneys, wine, beef, and pork vouchers. Mystery novelty prizes and the raffle added some excitement to the night, with the bag of rags being one of the most envied prizes between the farmers and auto mechanics in the room.

All funds raised from the night will be donated to the Barham LHMT to help support its service to the community. Murray Connect is a community coworking space in Barham, proudly brought to the community by Western Murray Land Improvement Group (WMLIG) and funded by the Australian Government and ANZ Bank via the FRRR Tackling Tough Times Together program. WMLIG would like to thank Murray Irrigation, community members for coming along and for their generous donations, and trivia hosts, Tim and Katrina Myers, for kindly donating their time and getting everyone into the spirit.
