The Bridge
Harvesting Weed
1 min read

An intriguing machine was spotted on the Gunbower Creek at Cohuna on Tuesday and Wednesday. The aquatic weed harvester was targeting approximately 500m2 of azolla and hornwort that has built up and is choking the system near the town bridge.

A spokesperson from North Central Catchment Management Authority said they will be removing the organic dead material that has built up due to the highly nutrient water in the creek, which, combined with the flood waters and high temperatures, has escalated.

Manoeuvring on the water using paddlewheels, the weed harvester collects the weed through the front chute, then transfers it along a conveyer belt on the back of the machine to a truck. The weed will be disposed of at the tip.
