The click clacking of knitting needles sounded through the main street on Tuesday, as locals brought their knitting projects out into the fresh air in celebration of Worldwide Knit in Public Day.
The official day was held in 57 countries in June and is to showcase knitting as an enjoyable activity to partake in. Wet weather forced the local postponement to today – and it didn’t disappoint, with knitters basking in the warm sunshine on the new seating in front of Kimmy’s Café.
Knitting projects included scarves, beanies, dolls, rugs and socks – some for personal use, some to be donated to charities such as KOGO – Knit One, Gift One, and some with coded patterns (this non-knitter was fascinated by the telephone pattern, where a telephone number dictates the number of rows knitted of each colour).
Knitters each had their own reasons for knitting, including relaxation, to keep their hands and minds active, for charity, for necessity and for joy and satisfaction.
One thing is for sure, the knitting section of the Cohuna Show should be full of entries next year.
