
David Unaipon (1872 – 1967), an aboriginal, is illustrated on the current Australian $50 note. He began school at the Point McLeay Christian mission at the age of 7. He became a writer, inventor and Pastor of churches. He invented a new sheep shearing device which became the basis of the modern shearing handpiece used by highly skilled shearers like Col Barnes of Barham.
