I observed a Long-necked tortoise walking slowly across the road in front of me. His neck was stretched out and his pace was slow but as soon as he detected my presence, the neck and head and legs and feet were immediately drawn in under his large protective shell. The tortoise felt safe and secure under that shell (some use the metaphor “fortress”) providing shelter and protection for the tortoise wherever it happens to be. What a privilege for the tortoise to have its very own mobile and personal fortress!
