Women in the district were treated to a ‘Girls’ Night In’ on Friday, March 25.
The event was organised by Amy Treacy from CohunaCo to honour her friend, Cath Crichton, who died earlier this year from bowel cancer.
Amy and Cath were part of a mothers’ group that was set up in 2003 when the women were new mothers, giving them the chance to connect with other new mothers in the district.
The ‘Mothers’ Group Pests’, as they became affectionately known, have met regularly since then, sharing their highs and lows and forging strong friendships.
Around eight years ago, Cath developed bowel cancer and underwent years of treatment, even going to Thailand in the hope of becoming cancer-free.
Despite moving to Ayr for work, Cath and her husband, Jason, and their two children, Sonia and Travis, have remained an integral part of the friendship group.
Amy said she was inspired by Cath and her positivity during her cancer journey. The friends were unable to attend Cath’s funeral and decided to honour her by hosting a ‘Girls’ Night In’ through the Cancer Council.
Over 50 women who attended the event paid a donation directly to the Cancer Council, raising $2,357.
